It is an autonomous research body amended as Body of Individuals under the Memorandum of Association and registered with Niti Aayog ID DL/2021/0287154. The Centre for History and Archaeology is one of the main pillars of the Asiatic Society for Social Science Research.

The Centre for History and Archaeology (CHA) was founded with the goal of informing the multi-layered stories of heritage and ancient sites through a variety of innovative activities such as exploration, documentation, archaeological excavation, conservation, and promotion of India’s cultural heritage, based on the belief that living in harmony with it improves one’s quality of life. The Center will foster archaeological exploration and excavation in order to obtain the most useful information from the field within the confines of a well-designed study program.
