CIAC’s inception was marked by the merger of two esteemed research centers: the Research Center in Communication Sciences and Arts of the University of Algarve and the Research Center in Theater and Cinema of the Higher School of Theater and Cinema of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL). Since then, CIAC has expanded its reach, operating four main poles across Portugal, each dedicated to advancing research in distinct areas of arts and communication.
At CIAC, innovation knows no bounds. From film and theater studies at the Higher School of Theater and Cinema of IPL to the exploration of digital media art at the Open University, CIAC’s research endeavors span a diverse spectrum of disciplines. The center’s commitment to digital literacy and social inclusion is evident in its pole at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, while its newest pole at the University of Maia signifies a forward-thinking approach to academic collaboration and knowledge dissemination.
